GOAL San Francisco Launches with a 'Casino Royale' Fundraiser

GOAL USA began an exciting new phase in its history last month when it launched itself on the West Coast for the first time.
GOAL USA, which has been established in New York for more than 20 years, will now have a presence in San Francisco, from where it plans to expand its fundraising base across California and beyond.
A native of San Francisco, Samira Kamangar, has been hired to lead this exciting new challenge for the organization.
Samira introduced GOAL USA to her fellow San Franciscans with an innovative casino-themed fundraising night, held at the Merchants Building’s luxurious Julia Morgan Ballroom on Friday, November 16th. Over 200 guests were in attendance at the event, which began at 7 p.m. with a cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception. This was followed by a video presentation to inform the audience of GOAL’s ethos and the organization’s work in the developing world during the past 35 years.
An auction was held to raise funds for GOAL’s Street Kids program in Ethiopia, a dynamic project that provides an array of services to vulnerable street-living children in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. The services GOAL offers in Addis Ababa include a drop-in and rehabilitation centre, sports and recreation activities, non-formal education, medical treatment, shower and washing facilities, and training in various life skills.
Following the auction, The San Francisco Irish Bagpipers heralded the opening of the casino, which included blackjack, craps and roulette tables in an authentic casino layout. Chips were given to the attendees.
A sponsored bar at the event meant that any drinks bought represented, in effect, donations to GOAL. In total, over $40,000 was raised at this first GOAL event in San Francisco. This was an amazing achievement by Samira and those who assisted her.
