GOAL places third at Web Summit ‘Hackathon’
|
GOAL made their own mark at this year’s Web Summit when they scooped third prize in a competition that challenged tech prodigies to develop applications that could help improve the delivery of aid to the world’s poor.
The #Hack4Good ‘Hackathon’ was one of many events that took place in the lead-up to the two-day technology conference in Dublin on October 30 and 31st, dubbed the ‘Davos for geeks’.
In a 12-hour hacking marathon, young tech prodigies were presented with the opportunity to develop the best apps, based on challenges presented to them by NGOs and other charitable organisations.
GOAL challenged participants to develop a ‘nutrition calculator’ that would help identify the nutritional needs of communities, and provide tailor-made nutrition support to our beneficiaries; and to develop an app that would help small-scale farmers in the developing world increase their sales and profits. The app that was developed for the latter won third prize overall in the event.
