GOAL is calling on people from all over Ireland to step up to the mark and organise a GOAL Mile in their area this Christmas.

A record 110 Miles were staged in cities, towns and villages all over Ireland last Christmas, proving once again that the event is one of the country’s most popular annual fundraisers.

The success of the GOAL Mile lies in its simplicity. As ever, people are asked to walk or run a Mile in their area and contribute whatever they can to GOAL on the day. It’s suitable for people of all ages, and fitness levels and organising a Mile couldn’t be more simple.

First established in 1982 by the late GOAL chairman and international athlete, Noel Carroll the event has mushroomed over the past 31 years, with Miles now even being held overseas in Britain and the United States.

Tens of thousands of people took part last year, raising more than €200,000 for GOAL’s humanitarian programmes. In three decades of the event, millions of euro has been generated for the poorest of the poor by GOAL Mile organisers and participants.

GOAL is currently working in 12 countries, including South Sudan, where they are helping to provide clean water, food and shelter to some of the many people who have fled violence to refugee camps in the country’s Upper Nile State.
