GOAL is about to significantly expand its emergency response programmes to support displaced families in northern Syria. With the onset of winter, the plight of families with young children is becoming particularly acute.
Thousands of families have been driven from their homes by on-going conflict in the country. Many of them have little access to the basic essentials of life such as clean water, food, medical aid and warm clothing and blankets.
Families are being forced to take shelter in public buildings, schools, farm sheds and under trees. With the onset of winter, the plight of families with young children is becoming particularly acute in the north of the country.
GOAL has already supplied 4,000 blankets and delivered almost 47 tonnes of flour to 4,630 displaced families (or approximately 27,800 people) in the north Syrian provinces of Aleppo and Idlib.
We are seeking funds to help us deliver more aid, such as food, warm clothing and hygiene kits, to these and other affected families.
Currently, there are more than two million displaced people within Syria. In total, in excess of three million are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The UN expects this latter number to exceed four million by the beginning of 2013.
