Twenty years ago this month, the world looked away as the genocide began in Rwanda.
As conflict in South Sudan pushes the country closer and closer to a major famine, we must ensure the international community does not make the same mistake today.
Take part in the Flora Women's Mini-Marathon for GOAL
Would you like to be part of #TEAMGOAL by taking part in this year’s Flora Women’s Mini-Marathon?
Actress, Vivienne Connolly - pictured with GOAL's Alan Vard (who really wants to take part!) and Caoimhe Clifton - will be leading the team on Bank Holiday Monday, June 2nd.
Explaining her reason for running for GOAL, Vivienne said: “As a woman and a mother, I felt compelled to help GOAL after watching their moving video about the plight of women in South Sudan.”
With the closing date for registrations fast approaching, ladies still have a chance to be part of a winning team and helping raise funds for, and awareness of, GOAL's work in the developing world.
Calling on schools to sign up for GOAL Sports Challenge
GOAL is calling on schools to sign up for the GOAL Sports Challenge, which will be taking place across the country during the months of May and June.
Schools are asked to either organise a Penalty Shoot-Out Competition or a Solo Run.
The Penalty Shoot-Out Competition is as straightforward as it sounds, while a Solo Run is simply a school-friendly version of the GOAL Mile, which thousands of people complete every year during the Christmas period. Just pick a venue, then run, walk or crawl a Mile!
GOAL, Concern, Oxfam and Trócaire will host a seminar to mark the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide at the Royal Irish Academy this Thursday, April 10th.
The seminar, entitled Strengthening the Global Response to Humanitarian Crises, will take place from 1:30-6:00 pm. The opening address will be delivered by Mr Joe Costello, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
It will consider the lessons learned from the crisis in Rwanda and the challenges that remain in supporting people affected by complex humanitarian emergencies, such as those in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Syria.
